The Royal Canadian MINT and Ingenico offer a sneak peek into the future of digital currency

How retailers will, for the first time, be able to accept digital cash from customers conveniently, affordably and securely

Atlanta, GA – January 10, 2014 Ingenico, the leading worldwide provider of payment solutions, is introducing the first proof-of-concept of the Royal Canadian Mint’s new MintChip digital payment R&D technology at the 2014 National Retail Federation’s Annual Convention & EXPO. The solution is first of its kind by enabling MintChip on a POS retail system.

The demos will take place at Ingenico Booth #3339 during show hours on Monday, January 13 and Tuesday, January 14, 2014.

Developed by the Royal Canadian Mint, MintChip is a secure protocol for holding and transferring digital value. Easy to adapt to any recognized national currency, MintChip has many of the attributes of real cash. Its transactions are instant, irrevocable, easy and inexpensive for both consumers and retailers.

Retailers are constantly looking for new ways to offer secure and efficient payment solutions to streamline costs and better serve customers,” said Thierry Denis, President of Ingenico, North America. “As the global leader with an extensive network of payment acceptance coverage, Ingenico is pleased to partner with the Royal Canadian Mint to raise payment solutions standards to a new level.

During the show, the Royal Canadian Mint will discuss its work on the MintChip platform and demonstrate how retailers can accept cash digitally at an Ingenico point of sale device. The collaboration highlights Ingenico’s commitment to help transform retailers’ omni-channel strategy and enable small mobile transactions conveniently, affordably and securely.

One-on-one interview opportunities with Ingenico and the Royal Canadian Mint can be arranged by request.
